Hobart 2011
34th Annual Meeting of the Australasian Flow Cytometry Group
August 23 - 26
Dear Colleagues:
On behalf of the Hobart organising committee (Greg Woods, Karen Drysdale, Brendan McMorran, Mark Cozens, Heinrich Korner) and the executive of the AFCG I extend a warm welcome to you all.
Firstly we are extremely grateful to our sponsors who have so willingly been able to provide us with much valued support for this meeting.

The 34th Annual Meeting and conference will be held at Wrest Point Hotel, Hobart, an absolute waterfront location on the River Derwent in Hobart.
- Registration and abstracts are now due with the early bird closing date set at Friday July 8. We have a separate website for registration and abstract submission.
- A full day workshop will be held on Tuesday 23rd August at Wrest Point Hotel. There will be two streams - research, coordinated by Karen Drysdale and Clinical/Technical, coordinated by Mark Cozens.
The Annual conference will commence on Wednesday 24th August and will end early afternoon of Friday 26th August This will allow sufficient time for those that need to depart on the Friday. Hopefully many of you will take advantage of a weekend in Tasmania - visit the Tourist Bureau online.
As an incentive to students (and supervisors who support students) we have kept student registration to a minimum. A student must be studying full time and not be in receipt of a salary (scholarship is OK). We will provide student and early career (<3 yr postdoc) bursaries (number depending on budget) to students/early career researchers presenting a poster or talk at the conference.
The scientific program is currently under construction (Greg Woods and Brendan McMorran). Invited speakers include Justin Taylor (from Mark Jenkins Lab, B cell memory), Anis Larbi (Singapore Immunology Network, T cell aging), Lynn Corcoran (B cells), David Gillis (myeloproliferative disorders), Lisa Lincz (microparticles), David Gottleib(clinical trials), Ben Roediger (confocal anlaysis of immune responses), Richard Boyd (Stem cell identification), Tracy Ainsworth (aquatic biology).
Accommodation will be made available at Wrest Point Hotel, but book early. There is alternative accommodation nearby or in Hobart, a short taxi/bus ride or a healthy 30 minute walk.
We have a number of social events arranged to stimulate discussion, renew acquaintances and make new friends.
The first event is the traditional Ice-breaker and this will be held Tuesday evening in the Boardwalk Gallery. This is the same location as the posters and trade display.
The second event, which we are very excited to provide, is the Wednesday afternoon trip to MONA. This is Tasmania’s (and probably Australia’s) newest international attraction that has opened to world wide rave reviews. MONA is a Museum of Old and New Art and is guaranteed to stimulate the senses (all five) and more!!
The annual dinner will be held Wrest Point’s revolving restaurant on Thursday evening.
I encourage you to register early and submit abstract to ensure a successful Conference.
We are looking forward to hosting a successful AFCG
