| AFCG - A Brief historical perspective ... |
| |
| The Australian Flow Microfluorimetry Group was born on May 2nd 1979 with a meeting of 7 participants arranged by
Dr. Paul Vincent at the Kanematsu Institute in Sydney. The name was changed in subsequent meetings to "Flow Cytometry Group" (Adelaide 1980) as a more general term for the technique and to "Australasian" (Adelaide 1984) to reflect the strong participation from New Zealand. |
| The group was incorporated in the state of Victoria on 15th June 1992 as The Australasian Flow Cytometry Group Inc. with the following Object of Association: "The Association is a scientific and educational organisation whose purpose is to promote research, development and applications in, and to disseminate knowledge of, flow cytometry". In pursuit of these objectives, the group organises annual scientific conferences and regular technical methods courses. Membership has grown to more than 300. |
